Ethiopian Guji Green coffee beans unroasted for home/business roasting 1kg Adems
Thanks to the natural processing method this coffee is
bursting with notes of blueberry, apricot jam and florals. A real game-changer.
This Guji has a great boozy fruit character and good body to
it. There is a deep rich almost dark chocolate notes with a cherry liqueur
character. Great as a brewed coffee or fruity espresso.
Coffees from Guji are finally receiving the credit they
deserve, having sat in the shadow of the more famous Sidamo and Yirgacheffe
regions. Guji is located in the Oromio Region at around 1850 - 1950 m.a.s.l.
using the Heirloom varietals.
Smallholder farmers bring their ripe cherries to the washing
station where the coffee is sorted and washed. This is a Natural process lot
which is where the coffee is kept within the outer cherry and sun-dried on
raised African beds and patios.
Guji is one of the zones of the Oromia Region of Ethiopia
and is named after a tribe of the Oromo people. Guji is bordered on the south
by Borena, on the west by the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples
Region, on the north by the Ganale Dorya River which separates it from Bale and
on the east by the Somali Region. The highest point in the zone is Mount Dara
Tiniro.
Like Yirgacheffe, coffees from the Guji area were previously
categorised together with coffees from Sidamo (a very wide geographical
classification encompassing much of central-south Ethiopia). However, Guji
coffees are quite distinct from either Yirgacheffe or Sidamo coffee. Located in
the southern portion of Sidamo, the people of Guji have a long tradition of
coffee cultivation. They are called the Oromo people and the hills and
landscape allow for particular cultivars to develop in this region.
